I had a hard time finding something annoying for the photo theme this week. I finally found something that has been annoying me for quite a while. This dress. It is the first thing I have ever sewn and, early in July, I had it all finished except for the hemming. I started it and got this far in just a week thanks to the cheerful encouragement of my sister who was visiting at the time. Once she left, though, I never touched it again. I find this very annoying. I have enough material to make four more dresses. I just find it very upsetting that I got this far with a dress and I not only never finished it, but I would feel intimidated at the idea of trying to sew another one after all this time has passed. I really, really want to sew my own dresses. Anyone want to suggest how to make a nice even hem?

It is annoying to start something and not finish it.
Great job though. I started sewing my own clothes in high school and smocked and made most of my daughter’s as well. They have a yardstick stand with a little attached tube that blows a little chalk on the dress at the hem.. it can be adjusted to different hem heights. That might be good.

So… Quit complaining and finish it!
Being male and ignorant of all things sewing, I have no idea how you should hem that dress. Staples seem like the cheapest and easiest option.
yes i hate it when leaving a project and never finishing it as it annoys you every time you look at it because you know it isnt finished.

Since I’m no sewing person myself, I totally understand this. I’ve had this problem with knitting before. I was forced to knit both sleeves of a sweater at the same time or only one of them would be finished…

What a gorgeous dress! And what a shame you’re not pursuing this. You obviously have talent. I’m afraid I can’t help you…I’m hopeless with sewing.
